【Making】 「Azikazin Play World」 Episode 1: Participating in a Game Exhibition?!

From May 22 (Thu) to May 25 (Sun), 2025, Azikazin Magic World participated in the Korean game exhibition 《PlayX4》, organized by the Gyeonggi Content Agency and KINTEX, which ran for 4 days.

Azikazin Magic World, a Korean creative group that showcases content inspired by game and animation culture, presented an exhibition of their works along with 「Azikazin Play World」, an interactive experience where visitors could play directly on-site.

「Azikazin Play World」 is a 15-minute horror, puzzle, and art game with low-poly visuals set in a liminal space. The Azikazin Editorial Team prepared a three-part series of behind-the-scenes stories, offering opportunities to discuss with game planners and developers they have collaborated with for the 《PlayX4》 game exhibition.

【Making】 「Azikazin Play World」 Episode 1: Participating in a Game Exhibition?!

Editorial Team
Hello. Please introduce yourselves along with your roles in 「Azikazin Play World」.

Lionclad
Hello, I’m Lionclad, responsible for art direction, BGM, and SFX production. I focused on blending Azikazin Magic World’s art into Director Jung Jaesoon’s game planning.

Jung Jaesoon
Hello, I’m Jung Jaesoon, a game planner who collaborated with Azikazin again after 5 years since the 「Eyeballs」 M/V. I work a day job at a company and took on the role of game director for 「Azikazin Play World」, handling planning and development at night.

Lee Sungmoon
Hello, I’m Lee Sungmoon, responsible for 3D modeling, animation, and level design for some stages.

Moogia
Hello, I’m Moogia, in charge of narrative design. I focused on the text work within the game and collaborated with Lionclad on BGM production and game QA.

Park Soomin
Hello, I’m Park Soomin, responsible for the on-site experience booth design of 「Azikazin Play World」.

I understand that Lionclad performed a Legend of Zelda remix set at the Retro Market, a side event of 《PlayX4》. So, what led to your participation in the exhibition booth this time?

Lionclad
The Retro Market is a place I started visiting after getting into retro games. In 2022, I contacted the Retro Market organizers out of the blue to ask if I could perform there, and they kindly accepted, which marked the beginning of our connection.

Lionclad
After performing there for three years, around last winter, the market organizer, retro game expert ‘Geomtteo,’ saw Azikazin’s ≪POP-UP PLAY STORE≫ and suggested, “How about participating as a game exhibition booth this year?”

Editorial Team
Before discussing 《PlayX4》, could you briefly explain Azikazin Magic World’s first offline event, ≪POP-UP PLAY STORE≫?

Lionclad
≪POP-UP PLAY STORE≫ was an offline event held at Mouse Potato near Jonggak Station. The main focus was an interactive experience where visitors could play game parts from Azikazin’s 「Rhythm*Pocket!」 and 「Keeper’s Wish」. We also prepared our first merchandise, plushies, keychains, T-shirts, and character-shaped bakeries, packing it all in with care.

Moogia
Despite being our first offline event, it was a meaningful occasion with many visitors. In one corner of ≪POP-UP PLAY STORE≫, we also exhibited 「Eyeballs」, the work that marked the beginning of our Game-nimation journey, and its developer, Jung Jaesoon, who was part of that start, also visited.

Jung Jaesoon
After working on 「Eyeballs」, I started working at a company and couldn’t meet the Azikazin team often. So, the dramatic changes in Azikazin felt even more striking at ≪POP-UP PLAY STORE≫.

*Eyeballs: Azikazin Magic World’s debut single and first Game-nimation music video. A work adopting the point-and-click game style of 「Freddi Fish」, where developer Jung Jaesoon took charge of game production, marking the beginning of the partnership with Azikazin Magic World. The Making story of the “Eyeballs” music video can be viewed here.

Jung Jaesoon
During the popup event, Lion brought up the idea of a game exhibition and suggested, ‘If it’s not too much pressure, how about collaborating again?’

After working on 「Eyeballs」, I had been developing games as a solo entrepreneur in the gaming industry, which drained a lot of my energy. I was hesitant to try something new, so I thought, ‘This is perfect!’

Editorial Team
《PlayX4》 has the character of a professional game exhibition. Therefore, the approach likely differed significantly from when you created an experience game for ≪POP-UP PLAY STORE≫.

Moogia
Since ≪POP-UP PLAY STORE≫ was mostly attended by Azikazin fans who understood even a buggy demo game, but 《PlayX4》 is a large-scale event with many game companies and gamers, we expected a more critical evaluation of our work.

Thus, just when we thought it might be too much for Azikazin to handle, the appearance of Jung Jaesoon, the developer of 「Eyeballs」, at the ≪POP-UP PLAY STORE≫ event opened a new direction for collaboration.

To be continued in Episode 2, .
