【Making】 「Azikazin Play World」Episode 3: Bustling Scene!!

May 22 (Thu) – May 25 (Sun), 2025 Azikazin Magic World participated in 《PlayX4》, a Korean game exhibition hosted by the Gyeonggi Content Agency and KINTEX, held over four days.

Azikazin Magic World, a Korean creative group inspired by game and animation culture, showcased its works and presented 「Azikazin Play World」, an interactive experience for attendees to play on-site.

「Azikazin Play World」 is a 15-minute low-poly visual horror·puzzle·art game set in a liminal space. For 《PlayX4》, the Azikazin Editorial Team prepared a three-part production story series, featuring conversations with game planners and developers they have collaborated with.

Soomin, who handled the on-site art, what specific aspects did you focus on while designing the 「Azikazin Play World」 booth?

Since 「Azikazin Play World」 was not a game intended for release, the team’s need was to create a booth that would naturally draw attention to the Azikazin team after the game caught users’ interest, rather than focusing solely on the game itself. So, we started by planning the flow of visitors within the booth.

The goal was to allow visitors to view Azikazin’s works without interfering with the gameplay of 「Azikazin Play World」. Additionally, to make the booth feel welcoming, we chose lightweight and open furniture, like chairs.

 

We arranged the booth so that visitors could enter and explore Azikazin’s works. While this structure might have lower accessibility, we thought it would be nice to create a space where people could calmly appreciate the works after playing the game or while waiting.

Although both dealt with the theme of games, the direction of VMD (on-site art) for ≪POP-UP PLAY STORE≫ and 《PlayX4》 likely differed.

Beyond the difference in venue size, the biggest distinction was that many visitors at 《PlayX4》 were unfamiliar with Azikazin. So, we created a leaflet introducing 「Azikazin Play World」 and Azikazin Magic World, and placed character panels around the booth to naturally convey Azikazin’s vibe.

Let’s talk about the on-site reactions. The character 「Doojaeng-e」, introduced in 「Azikazin Play World」, was especially popular with children. What kind of character is 「Doojaeng-e」?

 

Lionclad
In the initial planning, 「Doojaeng-e」 was a simple character—a dirty rat living in the sewers. As such, its design was the lowest priority. Pushed back repeatedly and pressed for time, we hurriedly based it on 「Gidulbee」, an environmental creature from 「Eyeballs」, in just one day.

Lionclad
Unexpectedly, it was a huge hit with kids at the event, which was surprising. One young visitor even sent us fan art of Doojaeng-e, which was truly touching.

As you wrap up the 「Azikazin Play World」 project, please share your final thoughts.

 

Jung Jaesoon
I’ve had similar exhibition experiences while working at a company, but seeing users play a game I truly considered *mine* was a new and profound experience.

Honestly, if the atmosphere had been dull, I wouldn’t have felt great, but thankfully, the visitors enjoyed it, which made me proud. Some players were giggling during the game, and seeing their enjoyment—without even needing to ask—will stay with me for a long time.

《PlayX4》 was a meaningful experience, allowing us to see people with a shared interest in games find 「Azikazin Play World」 and Azikazin’s works intriguing.

Before we wrap up, we heard there’s some surprising news related to Soomin, who has collaborated with Azikazin on various projects.

I have surprising news. Originally, I wasn’t part of Azikazin but supported their work as a collaborator. Over five years, working together became second nature, and I’ve now officially joined the team. Going forward, I’ll be responsible for offline events, merchandise, performances, and overall production design at Azikazin Magic World.

 

*Art Director Park Soomin oversaw on-site art for ≪POP-UP PLAY STORE≫ and 《PlayX4》, served as art director for Azikazin’s video projects 「IU Square’s Dream」 Live Clip and 「Balming Tiger Spirit Chaebol」 M/V, and participated as a photographer for 「((Rhythm*Pocket!)) Hotel Room Remix」.
