【Interview】『BRUTUS』 ~ The Korean Culture to Watch Now: Participation in the “Korean Culture News” Special Feature

Azikazin Magic World participated in a special feature of the Japanese lifestyle magazine BRUTUS, titled “Korean Culture News: The Korean Culture to Watch Now.”

The team introduced themselves to international readers, discussing the Dorepin Village and Jujubee story they are creating, the games and music that influence the members, and their upcoming activities.

Since Balming Tiger’s San Yawn, the guest of the second installment of this series, mentioned you as a creator to watch, we were eager to hear your story. First, please introduce the members.

Kiho

We are a five-member team: Lionclad, the art director and beatmaker; Moogia, the singer-songwriter and music producer; Sungmoon, the CG artist; myself, Kiho, in charge of video, development, planning, and operations; and Soomin Park, the art director.

Moogia

Sungmoon and I have been classmates since elementary school, and we became friends with Lionclad in high school, starting music activities as a trio. Later, when we decided to make music videos, I joined, and then Soomin, who was active as an art director, joined to form the current team.

What’s the meaning behind your group name?

Kiho

In Korean, ‘Azik’ means ‘still’ or ‘up until now’, so the name carries a self-deprecating yet comforting meaning, like ‘It’s okay because it’s still a magic world.’ It also reflects our desire to stay in a fantastical world forever.

Tell us about your activities.

Kiho

All the members love games and animation. We leverage each member’s talents (illustration, CG creation, game development, music production, video, and art) to engage in diverse activities, including character creation, game development, music production, music videos, and events. Our first team project was ‘Eyeballs’ in 2020, a music video that depicts the character Jujubee building a spaceship in a point-and-click game format.

Lionclad

While some may create game visuals and music together, we focus on making playable games and filming them to enhance immersion. That’s a big difference.

Tell us more about the character ‘Jujubee.’

Lionclad

Baby Jujubee falls from the sky through a hole in another dimension. The ‘TraKids’ living there raise Jujubee, and the story follows their fight against enemies called Seirens from that dimension. I’ve loved hand puppets since I was young, so I incorporated them into the design. We’re building various creations around the Jujubee character.

Tell us about the games or music that have influenced you.

Kiho

Playing 2000s NEXON online games like ‘MapleStory’ and ‘KartRider’ taught us a lot about design and other aspects.

Moogia

For music, I grew up listening to Korean and American hip-hop and British electronica. Recently, I’ve been drawn to the nostalgic atmosphere of Japanese anime music.

Sungmoon

Rewatching ‘My Neighbor Totoro’ four years ago deepened my interest in characters and animation.

Lionclad

I loved the amusement park management simulation game ‘RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventure’ for sparking my imagination. Musically, I’ve been influenced by figures in the hip-hop underground beat culture scene, like Flying Lotus.

What are your plans moving forward?

Kiho

We’re preparing an album set for release in January 2026. A new chapter awaits Jujubee, so stay tuned!
